COMPANY

Bonfire Theatre Group is a theatre development company that brings together exceptional actors and exceptional material. We produce bare-bones, no-pressure readings of new plays in development, in addition to previously-produced plays just for fun.

These readings provide an opportunity for us – without an audience or any expectations – to stretch our creative muscles and feed our creative souls. Actors get to meet blossoming playwrights and work on juicy and interesting material, both old and new. Playwrights get to hear their pieces read aloud by some of the best talent NYC has to offer.

Please join our efforts by contacting us here. Help an ember grow into a flame, or just gather around the bonfire and enjoy the party!

FOUNDER

Alison Cimmet has been working in theater, film, and television for over twenty years. She is a veteran of seven Broadway shows (most recently Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus and Amelie) and countless off-Broadway and regional productions (including Romeo and Juliet at Westport Country Playhouse and John Guare's world premiere of 3 Kinds of Exile at Atlantic Theater Company). She has graced the small and large screens, most notably in The Big Sick movie and television shows Blacklist, Younger, and Bull.

Alison has a degree in Theatre Arts from Brown University, where she won the prestigious Weston Award for excellence in acting. She studied acting further with The Actors Center, CayMichael Patten Studios, Bob Krakower, and Larry Moss, and studied improv comedy extensively with Upright Citizens Brigade.

Over the decades, Cimmet has encountered a wonderful variety of theatrical material from Shakespeare to Chekhov to improvisation to Guare to Durang to musical comedy to Charles Dickens to Taylor Mac. She has worked with many diverse directors such as George C. Wolfe, Michael Showalter, Pam MacKinnon, Leigh Silverman, Neil Pepe, Mark Lamos, Scott Ellis, Nicky Martin, and Tina Landau. And she has a vast and rich network of colleagues – actors and artists – who bring extraordinary life to the characters they portray. It is the cream of this crop that Cimmet has invited to join Bonfire Theatre Group, to read and explore already-produced plays and develop new ones.
